365 Project -- 149 - untitled

365 Day Photo Project — Day 149, May 27th 2012. It's always a gamble when I shoot candids, especially in small quarters. I do not want to be rude, and I'd love to ask permission (save for being shy), but I just do not like posed shots. Something gets lost the second someone knows you're photographing them. So sometimes you miss the shot, and sometimes you sneak it in. Cafe Lola is an awesome, ridiculously tiny cafe. Every inch is covered in detail, even the waitresses. If I was allowed, I could easily spend an hour taking shots in here. Instead, I couldn't help myself, I kept sneaking photos. Most didn't come out, but I saw this one and knew I had to take it. She was far enough away, and not paying attention to me, that I was able to get it.

Of course, I never tell them I'm taking it. What if it didn't come out? That would be embarrassing if they asked to see it. Maybe I'll work on being more open and direct this year. Maybe I won't. One thing I do know is that I cannot go back to landscapes. People are too interesting, and fleeting. Any shot you take of the Brooklyn Bridge has probably been done before, but a person is always changing. Instead, I like the context of the person to open up the "landscape." Whenever you see my shot, even a seeming landscape, there is always a subject. I hope it's obvious here. :)
