Irene, from Glacia, in Barcelona
(59/100 Strangers) Irene is a rockstar. We found her at "True Artisan," a specialty coffee shop in Barcelona's Gothic Quarter, holding down shop on an unusually busy Friday morning. She moved here from Glacia (North-Western Spain) in 2008 to try it out, and back again last year. She told me that people who leave here generally come back. "You have to lose something to know what you had."
Now she is a barista at True Artisian, and while a neighborhood near by had no power, she was holding down the unusually busy shop like a boss. After watching her acrobatics for a while, we finally got a chance to talk, mostly to drool over the Marzoca espresso machines she had throughout the shop. Her favourite model could also brew beer.
Irene (pronounced "e-ren-ay)was super friendly, and passionate. We found her through my previous stranger, Marcio (in San Sebastian), who Irene only knew as "Richard," because she thought he looked like Richard Gere. She was totally supportive of the stranger project, and came up with all sorts of poses while we shot. For me, however, the best shots came when she laughed, because those showed her personality the best.
Thanks for getting to know us, Irene! We miss your shop already!
